Farmhouse Kitchen
As the kitchen range is fired, children take part in the mixing of traditional griddle cakes ready to cook on the flat bake-stone. The children are shown the fittings of the back kitchen with its brick bread oven and copper.
Links with History Unit 2: Houses and Homes, DT Unit 5B: Bread and incorporates numeracy and science aspects of the curriculum. Aprons will be provided.

Bread Making
Children gain an insight into the daily life of the farm servants in 1805 by working alongside the cook and the scullery maid. Aspects of the scullery such as wash day using the copper and cooking for the farm workers on the hob grate are discussed.

Cheese and Buttermaking
The dairy maid involves the children in the cheesemaking process from the cutting of the curds until the cheese goes into the press. Children hear about the life of the dairy maid in 1805.
