Sun July 5th   Stafford Castle & Shugborough
A fascinating insight into this most important strategic monument From Norman origins through to a nineteenth century re- building, an experienced tour guide will be able to share Stafford Castle’s past and present with you. There is also a “behind the scenes” look at this year’s Shakespearean production at the castle with a chance to purchase discounted tickets from the box office. Travel on to lunch at Shugborough followed by a chance to relax and discover the delights of  the Complete Working Historic Estate £14.50 per person.  MORE

Sun July 19th  History of the Gardens
Join our experienced guide as we explore the grade one listed gardens and listen to stories of lost cascades and a flooded pagoda. The walk is followed by a delicious afternoon tea served in the Courtyard Room £10.50 per person

Sat Aug 29th   Hermits and Hidden Gems
The tour leader takes visitors on a fascinating visit to the Haywood Cliffs with magnificent views across the estate towards Tixall Gatehouse, Stafford Castle and Cannock Chase. Highlights of the walk include an ice  age glacier stone, a local ghost story and stories about the rather odd fashion of hiring hermits at stately homes. Visitors will also learn about  local wildlife, ancient trees and J.R.R. Tolkien’s connection to the estate.The walk is followed by a delicious afternoon tea.£10.50 per person      

Sat Sep 12th   A Tale of Two Lichfields
A fully escorted tour of the magnificent Lichfield Cathedral  followed by lunch at Shugborough with the opportunity to sample the delights of the ancestral home of the Earls’ of Lichfield.   £16.75 per person.  MORE

The walk includes a visit to the Earls’ of Lichfield private Arboretum, which is not normally open to visitors. Learn more about  mysteries that surround the monuments situated on the Estate The walk is followed by a delicious afternoon tea.£10.50 per person

 

All of These walks and tours need to be booked in advance by either calling 01889 881388 or sending a cheque for the correct amount payable to Staffordshire County Council at the address below.  Please also supply contact details.

Note that the walks will only go ahead if miniumum numbers are achieved.  You will be notified (and refunded) if numbers are not reached.

*The Hermits & Hidden Gems walk is about two miles long across largely uneven ground and includes four stiles. Sturdy footwear and warm clothing are recommended.
