Summer Arts

There is no denying that the complete working historic estate of Shugborough is big on art.  The Mansion House is full of it – from awesome full scale paintings and wall tapestries, to ornate gold leaf plasterwork to beautiful and priceless ceramics created by the likes of Josiah Wedgwood.

So it’s no surprise to hear that Shugborough has commissioned a resident artist to expand on the estates rich artistic background and provide a variety of creative events for visitors to the estate over the summer months.

Bev Holden, Shugborough’s new ‘artist in residence’, is the person with all the artistic know how and has come up with a not too be missed programme of colourful workshops, professional courses and stunning exhibitions.

Bev has arranged a full summer arts programme including:

Sunday August 20 ‘Using Your Digital Camera’ course
(for adult beginners)

Monday August 21 Contemporary Sculpture Workshops
(for older children & adults)

Sunday August 27 Felt Making Workshops
(for older children & adults)

Monday August 28 Paint Your Own Ceramic Animal
(children and adults)

Shugborough General Manager, Richard Kemp said:  “Bev Holden’s appointment as our first ever Artist in Residence will contribute to the estate’s historic tradition of being a haven for fostering interest and appreciation of arts for all parts of the community.”

The programme will conclude with a final exhibition of work by Bev Holden – artist in residence – on Sunday September 3.

The courses and workshops are included FREE with ticket entry to the estate.  There is a 50p charge for materials for the Ceramics and Felt Making Cousres.  Places are limited at some of the sessions, and anyone interested should call first on 01889 881388 to enquire about booking procedures and availability.
