Stafford Castle & Shugborough have joined together to offer a unique opportunity to take in both fabulous Staffordshire locations in one super day
A fascinating insight into this most important strategic monument from Norman origins through to a nineteenth century re-building, an experienced tour guide will be able to share Stafford Castle’s past and present with you. Afterwards, travel on to lunch at Shugborough followed by a chance to relax and discover the delights of the Complete Working Historic Estate.

STAFFORD CASTLE:
Originally built by Robert de Toeni, (later known as Robert of Stafford), in the Norman period, Stafford Castle has dominated the local skyline for over 900 years.The site itself extends to over 26 acres and consists of Keep, inner bailey, outer bailey, woodland, herb garden, visitor centre and car park.
The Visitor Centre has an audio visual display which tells the history of the castle; hands on items including arms, armour and costumes; a timeline to put the history of the castle into a national context; a display area with a changing programme of exhibitions and exhibits; and the opportunity to try your hand at coin minting and brass rubbing.The Visitor Centre shop offers a wide range of gifts, souvenirs traditional toys and local crafts and stock a large number of local history books. SCHEDULE & ITINERARY
Date - July 5th
• 10.30am Arrive at Stafford Castle shop for a cup of tea/coffee
• 11.00am The group will be met by a Castle Guide during coffee for a walking tour of the grounds
• 11.45am Free time to explore the Castle visitor centre
• 12.30pm Depart for Shugborough using your own transport (20 minute journey)
• 1.00pm Arrive at Shugborough - make way to courtyard room for lunch at 1:30pm
• 2.15pm Free time to enjoy the Shugborough site
On this specific date there is also a “behind the scenes” look at this year’s Shakespearean production at the castle with a chance to purchase discounted tickets from the box office
