“Long perspectives and glorious landscapes have always been something of a speciality at Shugborough”

About The Competition

Shugborough is the ancestral home of the Earls of Lichfield and has a rich and vibrant history. The 5th Earl of Lichfield was the internationally renowned photographer Patrick Lichfield. He had a deep rooted love of the countryside and in particular the Shugborough Estate. This passion inspired stunning photography for decades.

In 2007 Shugborough launched a very special national competition designed to celebrate the life, works and passions of the late Patrick Lichfield.  The competition deadline has now ended and hundreds of entries have been received from as far afield as Las Vegas. The youngest entrant was six years old and the oldest entrant, 87.

Some of the more unusual submissions include stunning pictures of the Estate reflected upon newly-formed “lakes” during last  Summer’s flooding, a fire-eater and a smiling pig.

Shugborough Group Manager Liz Carruthers said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the success of the competition. It is a great honour to the memory of Patrick Lichfield that so many should wish to continue his great love of photography in the stunning Shugborough grounds.”

The entries have now all been judged by world famous landscape photographer, Charlie Waite, managing director of Olympus UK Ltd, Graeme Chapman, and Lord Lichfield’s photographic assistant, Iain Lewis.  Winning entries for each category will receive Olympus cameras with a main prize of an Olympus E-400 – D-SLR being awarded for the best overall image.

Results

We are pleased to announce that the following entrants have been selected by the judges and they will find out where their images have been placed specifically in a special awards ceremony at the estate in April.  We would like to thank all participants to the competition, and hope very much that they have enjoyed taking part.
