For a terrific family day out Shugborough takes some beating.

Children and adults alike will love the rare breeds at the farm and a ride (or two) on 'Lucy the Train' is a must - after all it's included in the price of admission! Don't forget under 5s are FREE!
Youngsters can step into the past with the help of dressing up boxes and have fun in the games gallery at the farm as well as getting elbow deep in curds and whey.Children love to have a go at dollypegging, cheese-making, baking and candle dipping.
In addition any mums who feel their youngsters need to brush up on housework skills are welcome to bring the family along to the farm and servants’ quarters. Here, they can have fun learning old-fashioned cleaning skills including boot polishing, rug beating and learning to set a table properly.
In addition, Lucy the land train operates throughout the day offering fun and scenic rides.
FARMYARD FROLICS Visitors can also meet the animals at the farm including new arrivals, Primrose the Exmoor pony and Conrad the shorthorn calf. There are also eight new longhorn calves which can be seen grazing amongst the iconic Shugborough rare breed herd.
MANSION HOUSE FUN At the House we will offer an insight into life in a stately home with “Dressing for Dinner”, where they’ll have a go at how corsets and crinoline hoops work (amongst other things). We will also have a curiosity box full of strange and wonderful things that would be used in the house—to see if anyone can guess their uses.
GRAB YOUR SLATE or YOUR TOOLS At weekends there are Victorian schoolroom lessons for the whole family to take part in and frequent demonstrations by craftworkers including the blacksmith.

EASTER HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES APRIL 2 - 14 2010 Visitors can step into the past at the nation’s most complete working historic estate this Easter.
Shugborough, near Stafford, brings the upstairs downstairs existence of stately families and their servants to life as costumed characters work in the real historic environments of mansion house, farm, servants’ quarters and walled garden.
Over the actual Easter weekend visitors can help out with Easter baking, butter-making, and cheese-making and watch the special Easter ale being made in the Victorian brewhouse.
At the farm, spring lambing will be well under way and a host of new arrivals including real Easter bunnies and chicks will be waiting to greet visitors. In addition, the estate’s formal gardens offer one of the most breath-taking Easter walks each year as over a mile of riverside gardens are transformed into a carpet of yellow daffodils.
There will also be face painting on all four days and Easter trails and hunts through the house and servants’ quarters. The mansion house will also feature stunning displays of spring flowers throughout the state rooms..
On Easter Monday, visitors will be able to take part in Victorian children’s outdoor games and enjoy a horse carriage ride along the parkland drive. Their will also be a brass band performing.
Shugborough also boasts a land train, play park, craft workshops, a gift shop and a licensed tearoom serving homemade food using locally sourced produce.
In addition to Easter weekend, a host of activities will be taking place at the estate across the entire Easter school holiday
