Education Help

Shugborough offers activity-centred learning sessions using historical artefacts in the Mansion House, Servants' Quarters and Farm.

Our programmes have been designed with the requirements of the National Curriculum in mind. Teachers should regard them as flexible teaching resources to meet their own curricular needs.

To this end, we have endeavoured to link our activities as nearly as possible to the government’s standard scheme of work.  (www.standards.dfes.gov.uk)

Whether five-year-old children are facing the challenge of learning about Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in an authentic 1887 classroom, or Year 10 students are carrying out a comparative study of Georgian properties and lifestyles, the quality of the experience is of a very high standard.

ON ARRIVAL AT SHUGBOROUGH

Please ensure you arrive in plenty of time to allow the children to be dropped off and the coach to return to the main car park. This will also allow the children time to visit the toilets before the demonstrations commence.

Please ensure that the children are organised into their groups before you arrive and that you bring your confirmation of booking form with you.  Further details about arrivals and departires will be sent with your booking confirmation.

LUNCH TIMES

Groups will be allotted lunch breaks to fit into the planned itinerary; these must be adhered to. Please ask the children to bring a packed lunch.

Lunch boxes can be brought into the reception areas with them on arrival. There are grassed picnic areas situated at the main site adjacent to the car park and also at the Farm.

We do our best to accommodate groups under cover in wet/cold weather however, because of the nature of the buildings, we cannot guarantee this.

There is a National Trust Shop situated in the Midden Yard where children can buy small gifts and souvenirs.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Taking photographs during demonstrations is generally permitted if prior consent is sought, and if the photograhy is unobtrusive. If you would like to take photographs, or use a video camera, please speak to a co-ordinator on arrival.

Photographic material is not to be used or reproduced for commercial purposes.
CLOTHING
Please ensure that children are wearing suitable footwear and have waterproof clothing with them in case of poor weather.
HEALTH & HYGIENE
Please inform us of any children who may be in ill health, or have any specific allergies. We would be grateful if the importance of good hygiene is stressed to the children before their visit, especially when visiting the Farm or other outside areas.

Children should be reminded not to eat sweets or put their fingers into their mouths whilst visiting the Farm or outside areas. A teacher or parent should supervise children when washing their hands to ensure that it is properly done.
